bonne-bell replied to your post: my main thing with the magic reveal thing, is mostly about duties and roles, as in, once merlin’s magic is out there (which it doesn’t need to be, it might actually cheapen things, bbc merlin being what it is), what would he DO? many people write/draw/expect him to become ‘court warlock/whatever’ but what would such a position entail? as you say, merlin’s role is murky enough as it is, we don’t need more conveniently unexplained reasons for him to be where the action is.
I actually think it would be better if Merlin was promoted to a higher status before the magic reveal. Giving him a promotion after finding out about his magic would just make it seem as if he’s only being valued for that.
Ok, this a good point. I hadn’t really considered this. Wouldn’t it be cool for Merlin to be recognized for who he is (or for who he’s believed to be), a smart, resourceful, loyal servant of Camelot. Yeah, it really would.
