manzanasverdes asked: plus, it would mean merlin's advance in position is given because of who he is, not what he can do. yes, magic is a p big part of who is & the very reason why he does many things (or at least did, in the beginning), and i do get how it must feel to have this majorly important part of your identity, your self-definition, hidden or denied, however, as the story's been told, actually reveling his magic is very likely to end in misery for him, & i don't trust tptb to make justice to such a story :s
I don’t trust the showrunners with this either. And I just don’t think it’s a part of their “creative vision.” And think of the aftermath! They’d need to figure out how to move Merlin’s magic beyond shoving people into shit! They’d have to retire Arthur’s armor and write him as a diplomat! (What would he wear if not his armor???!!!) And they’d have to explore the mythology behind this whole “Emrys” construct.
I just…can’t see it happening.
