She was just a love interest, she was too perfect, she was too fickle, she got in the way of my ship, she was poorly written, she was a damsel in distress, she was best in S1, she bored me, etc.

I’ve spent almost two years in this wretched fandom hearing the aforementioned rationalizations for hatred of Guinevere, my favorite character on the show. And now that the show is over, it seems the wretched have descended upon the Guinevere/Gwen tags like some sort of biblical plague to outline ONCE AGAIN all the reasons why Gwen has earned their blatant disrespect.

And I just need to let you all know this: I don’t fucking care. And I imagine that very few Gwen fans tracking her tag are interested in hearing why you dislike her. Because we have heard it repeatedly over many years, in many forms, from many fans, over and over and over again. Let me assure you that you add NOTHING new or clever to the discussion. Your meta/character analysis is not at all original.  It has been discussed, refuted, rebuked, rehashed many times over the show’s run—here on tumblr and on LJ and on various fan forums and in the goddamned comment sections in various youtube accounts, even.

There’s nothing you can say about Guinevere that hasn’t already been said about her by young and old assholes alike. And I have nothing to gain from 1000+ word essays that put forth your indifference to/hatred of the character. By all means, continue to marginalize Gwen if you must, but AT LEAST spare those tracking the Guinevere/Gwen tags. Don’t tag it.  Just. Don’t. Do. It.

It’s standard tumblr etiquette after all.

It’s really annoying when fans that have never given a fuck about arthur/gwen suddenly have so much to say about them.

This isn’t a review. Let’s be real: Merlin is a HORRIBLY written show, so a critique of the writing would be a waste of time. I just wanted to share my thoughts on this episode. There was SO MUCH GWEN and it was glorious, so these are my thinky-thoughts on the whole thing.

I don’t like this…

I thought I’d love it but…I sort of hate it.

“This is another great episode for Angel Coulby who demonstrates new facets to Gwen’s character, which range from the over-wrought wife to cold-blooded killer as she serves up a sweet blend of scheming evil. There are shocking moments in store when Gwen moves beyond vengeful to frankly murderous, and yet somehow we forgive her because she is really rather good at it! The performance at the King’s bedside for Sir Leon is utterly sublime, reeling him in and gaining his total support.”

So we’re not going to see Gwen in this episode again, are we? Alrighty.

So I watched this week’s episode. Well…I skimmed it, actually. It was fine. No, it was boring. I mean…IDK. I just don’t have the energy or the will to critique the show anymore. I have very little to say about it:

• Uther is an even bigger bastard in the afterlife, no (A. Head was predictably flawless tho)?
• Gwen got yet another a beatdown but almost no lines.  Nice. Awesome.

Shit, I can’t even come up with a third bullet…

• Wait! Here’s one: Marriage ruins fictional relationships too, apparently. Don’t get me wrong—I adore Guinevere as queen (her reign is the only reason why I still watch the show), but I liked A/G better as star-crossed lovers (see S2 and S3).

That NEVER happens…

Everyone is bugging out over the hilariously awful S5 Ep 1 poster, and I’m just like “Whatever!!! My Queen is FRONT AND CENTER!!!!!11”

I don’t mean to sound offensive, but I’ve seen the stills for the new season of Merlin I just wanna say that they’re doing their best to make Gwen lovelier, with beautiful dresses and hair, and Morgana look ghostly and kind of ugly, just to point out that Arthur (suposedly) made the right choice (which was stolen from him with such a poor writing that I’m ashamed for them) and still Morgana is beautiful and Gwen is just not.

I’d encourage you to think beyond your (irrational) bitterness over your sunken ship to the way these characters are CODED. If you analyse Merlin S5 costume choices LOGICALLY you’ll find that Gwen’s new wardrobe has nothing to do with Morgana or Arthur/Morgana. The lovely Guinevere is decked out in finery BECAUSE SHE IS THE MOTHERFUCKING QUEEN OF CAMELOT. Did you expect them to dress her as a fucking scullery maid?

Also, please keep your hateful, illogical anti-gwen screeds out of her tag, please and thank you.
