Yes, it is AWFUL that you want Gwen to be BANISHED OR KILLED to make way for your fanon ship. It doesn’t speak well of you at all that you’re hoping for ONE OF THE ONLY FEMALE CHARACTERS ON THE SHOW to be murdered for the sake of slash fantasies.
It’s cool, though. This shitty fandom is full of your ilk. You’re not alone!
***So all it takes is one pic of Queen Guinevere for Merlin fans to start spewing their misogyny all over tumblr? Fucking hell…

Am I the only one that find it’s interesting (read: all too typical)

That so many Merlin fans have this desperate,  inexorable need to make Lancelot’s death about anyone BUT Gwen? Lancelot died for Arthur! He died for Camelot! He died for Merlin! But Lancelot DID NOT SACRIFICE HIS LIFE for that (whore/bitch insert preferred misogynist expletive here).

I just think it’s telling that fandom is soooooo driven to minimize Gwen’s role in everyone’s life—Arthur’s, Merlin’s, etc. It’s like a fandom pastime.

was she actually attracted to him ? all i remember is her crushing hard for Merlin and finding Lancelot noble and all that . First love to me means fireworks idk

Hmmm…It’s true—she did have that crush on Merlin and she didn’t seem all that moved by Lancelot when she first met him (though he was VERY into her.) But by the end of that episode, they have that scene where she asks him not to leave Camelot, and it really did seem as though she was into him. (I do get a kick out of their reunion scene in S2, where he says he’s thought of her often and asks if she’s thought of him and she’s basically like “ummmm in a manner of speaking…” lol)

Anyway I guess you could say the “instant attraction” was one-sided—at least initially.

On love at first sight…

Lancelot and Gwen were cute, right? Yeah, super cute.  And it was adorable that they had this instant attraction to each to each other. STILL, I’m almost offended by the claim that their instant attraction makes them a “better” or more viable pairing than Arthur and Gwen.

On the Warner Brothers’ ‘Arthur and Lancelot’ movie

arthuriana:

Admittedly, this is probably a little late considering WB have already shelved this movie, but I have admit to being pretty happy that they did. I recall the movie being described when it was first announced as something of a fresh take on Arthurian legends because it focused on Arthur and Lancelot’s relationship before Guinevere came along. Which admittedly seemed totally nonsensical as Arthur and Lancelot’s relationship is completely interchangeable with any of Arthur’s relationships with his other knights - it’s Guinevere who makes it interesting, it’s Guinevere who takes it from a simple master/servant dichotomy and elevates it to a triangular dynamic that brings in all kinds of interesting questions of loyalty and power and love.

As for being fresh, I don’t see what’s fresh about a bromantic take on the Arthurian legends when we already essential have that with ‘Merlin BBC’ with the relationship between two men at the core of a series. I don’t see what’s fresh about any movie all about platonic male homosocial relationships which seem to be what most movies for the last few years have revolved around.

Want to be really fresh, Warner Brothers? Want to be really original? Why not look at female friendships for a change? Why can’t we have ‘Morgan and Guinevere’ being released instead - the unlikely but entertaining story of two former foes coming together to rescue the dudes (who need it for once) with the help of a rogue Gwaine (if you insist on throwing a man in the mix). That would be something we haven’t seen before and a place where the legends haven’t gone yet. ‘Arthur and Lancelot’ on the other hand would just be retreading a lot of old, stale material.

Title: all this, and love too
Characters/Pairings: Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot, Merlin/Gwaine
Rating: PG-13ish
Length: Freaking too long, man. Like 9K or something, idk.
Spoilers/Warnings: Set some time after S3 ends, Arthur and Gwen are married. S4 never happened for obvious, Lancelot-shaped reasons.
Summary: Three are stronger than the two.
Notes: I am not kidding when I say this is A/G/L; another way to put it is to say that this is a fic where everyone loves everyone. Soooo if you don’t like the idea of Pendragons being all married and domestic or of people appreciating Lancelot for the amazingly noble dude that he is, then this is not the fic for you.
I couldn’t have finished this without @shallitellyouastory’s brain or @bigbardas’ joyful squeeing. No joke. Also, the gorgeous graphic is courtesy of @bigbardas as well. Bow down to her.

Arthur shrugs, a little helplessly. “He’s Lancelot. He’s the most honorable man I know. All that I ever wanted to be, he already was.”
“I rather think,” Gwen says, “that the hero worship went both ways.”
“Yes,” Arthur replies. “It did.”

Once there was Lancelot, a long time ago,
I thought he was dead.
I thought I would never see him again.
And then when I did, I was… overwhelmed.

Merlin fandom perspectives that will FOREVER read as bullshit to me…

…Vilifying Gwen for being “just a love interest” to Arthur while rooting for her to be “just a love interest” to Lancelot.

OH HEY ANON!!!

Aww, I got THREE ANONYMOUS messages from a malcontent that doesn’t appreciate being confronted with the misogyny that runs rampant in this GROSS (he/she is terribly offended by this word, which means I will be using it more often) fandom.

Anon, I’ve got work to do, so I’ll address your spin and your bullshit excuses and all the half-assed rationalizations you deploy to make yourself feel better about your entrenched misogyny later (maybe. MAYBE.), but for now, let me say this: When you tell someone to “stop making everything about gender and race” (funny, cuz I didn’t mention RACE…), you reveal your ignorance and naivete (and maybe your privilege, too).  Also: This is my blog — don’t be telling me what to do.

Cheers!

  • Merlin Fan: Oh, Lancelot is so good and noble and flawless and just, you know, like the PERFECT man. It's so AWFUL the way they sullied his good name in the last episode!
  • Same Merlin fan: Ugh, Gwen is so good and noble and just like, such a Mary Sue. I might like her if she had some flaws, ya know?
  • Me: Why is this fandom so fucking gross tho?
